Complaint Process

ARIDO has a complaint and discipline procedure under its Titles Act and By-laws. A client with a complaint about an interior designer who is an ARIDO member can put that concern in writing to the Complaints Committee. The Complaints Committee, composed of ARIDO members, will ask the member to respond to the complaint in writing and attempt, where appropriate, to mediate and informally resolve the issue. If the Complaints Committee finds that the complaint warrants further investigation, it is referred to the Discipline Committee for a formal hearing. The Discipline Committee is composed of experienced interior designers who hear submissions from the complainant and from the designer before making a decision on whether the designer has acted professionally.

Professional practice insurance is generally not available to protect against the cost of investigations, complaints and discipline proceedings, and so design professionals must be knowledgeable about how to respond if a complaint is made.
