This morning, Trevor Kruse received the prestigious 2007 Leader’s Award from the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO) and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA). The award was handed out as part of the IIDA Leader’s Breakfast, where visionary Lyn Heward delivered the keynote address. Trevor Kruse is the first Canadian recipient of this award.

Trevor Kruse is the Principal and owner of Hudson Kruse, a rapidly growing interior design firm in Toronto that specializes in residential development projects across North America. Notable projects of Hudson Kruse include the interiors of Trump International Hotel and Tower Toronto, the Spire and Radio City for Context Developments, as well as City Centre West in Mississauga, and NY Towers in Toronto for the Daniels Corporation.

An inexhaustible volunteer for ARIDO, Kruse’s contribution to the profession of interior design in Canada has been profound. As ARIDO’s lead volunteer for IIDEX/NeoCon Canada for the past fifteen years, Kruse has worked tirelessly to strengthen the impact of the event.

A firm believer in accreditation for the profession, Kruse has taken an active role with the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ), where he serves as the delegate for Ontario and sits on several committees. Recently, Trevor led the initiative to ensure that all provincial Interior Design Associations have representation at NCIDQ, and secured funding to enable their participation.

“We are thrilled to present this award to Trevor,” said Susan Wiggins, Executive Director of ARIDO. “Beyond his outstanding achievements and participation in the interior design community, the body of Trevor’s work exemplifies his tremendous creative abilities, sense of vision and overall passion for the profession. His position as industry leader is in every way a result of his successes as an interior designer.”

Kruse is a member of ARIDO, IIDA and Interior Designers of Canada (IDC), and a role model to students and young designers acting as mentor, teacher and colleague to countless graduates.

“There is a wealth of interior design leadership in Ontario so I am honored to be the first Canadian selected for this award,” said Kruse. “Throughout my career, I have strived to make a lasting and positive contribution to the profession of interior design. I hope that I can take the opportunities afforded me and continue to be active in our industry and inspire others to take a leadership role in our community.”

Seven IIDA Leader’s Breakfasts are held in major metropolitan cities across North America each year. Each event features a distinguished keynote speaker and honors an individual who demonstrates exemplary leadership as a design professional. This morning’s event was the first of its kind to be held in Canada, and was co‐presented by ARIDO. The IIDA Leader’s Breakfast series is sponsored by Herman Miller and Interior Design magazine.
