Intern

Intern members are on the path to Registered membership, but have not yet accumulated the total years of practical experience required and passed the NCIDQ examination. Currently, applicants must possess the required interior design education (minimum three-year diploma) from an ARIDO-recognized institution. Applicants must also submit a proof of liability insurance form, or a completed IDC-Mumby Insurance application form. Applicants must ensure that their educational institution sends transcripts to ARIDO.

Applicants must obtain supervised work experience and participate in ARIDO's Professional Development (PD) program. As of January 1, 2010, mandatory participation in IDEP (Interior Design Experience Program) is no longer required. Members currently enrolled in IDEP may continue to participate in this program rather than ARIDO's PD program, if they wish.

Beginning January 1, 2015, a four-year bachelor's degree will be the minimum standard of accredidation. For more information, please click HERE. For a chart outlining the ARIDO accredidation standards, please click HERE. Questions? Visit the FAQs answers page.

Please contact Pavy Rajagopal, Membership Manager, with any questions at: 416.921.2127 x 231.

Those who attended a school outside of Ontario must also complete a questionnaire detailing education and experience. The Membership Committee may request a portfolio interview.

Upon acceptance into this category, Intern members will be given an eligibility date to write the NCIDQ (National Council of Interior Design Qualification) examination, within a three-year period. The Council establishes standards of competence, ensuring that an interior designer who is NCIDQ certified creates interior spaces that are not only esthetically pleasing, but also functional and safe.

Intern members may use the designation of ‘Intern Member of the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario" or "Intern, ARIDO" after their name. They may not use any modifications of these designations.
