AAA not part of reciprocity agreement

Interior design associations across Canada now have a reciprocity agreement in place. It's important to note, however, that The Alberta Association of Architects (AAA) is not party to this agreement.

As a result of negotiations facilitated by the Interior Designers of Canada (IDC) a reciprocity agreement now exists for Registered members of the following interior design associations:
·         IDIBC (Interior Design Institute of British Columbia)
·         IDA (Interior Designers of Alberta)
·         IDAS (Interior Design Association of Saskatchewan)
·         PIDIM (Professional Interior Design Institute of Manitoba)
·         ARIDO (Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario)
·         IDNS (Interior Designers of Nova Scotia) and
·         IDNB (Interior Designers of New Brunswick).
The agreement stipulates that, by 2015, all newly Registered members of all provincial interior design associations must have graduated from a degree program in interior design. And, by 2017, all newly Registered members of all provincial interior design associations must have graduated from a CIDA (Council for Interior Design Accreditation) accredited degree program. Under this agreement, reciprocity applies to all current Registered members of these provincial associations.
It should be noted that this reciprocity agreement applies only to those associations listed above. It does not, for example, apply to The Alberta Association of Architects (AAA), an association that registers interior designers as Licensed Interior Designers (LID), who are legally entitled to practise a certain scope of interior design in that province.
