Asbestos on Construction Projects and in Buildings and Repair Operations
by Don Pinchin
Two-hours long

Sponsored by:

Govan Brown Managers

Although the use of asbestos in construction has almost ceased in Canada, a significant quantity of asbestos may still be found in buildings. Regulations that address the management of Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) have been in place in Ontario since 1985 and now exist in all Canadian provinces. Compliance with these regulations is the responsibility of owners and building managers, designers, architects and contractors at every level. The Ontario regulations have recently been updated under O. Reg 278/05 - the Regulation Respecting Asbestos on Construction and in Buildings and Repair Operations. The new regulations are much more strict and all encompassing than prior Ontario regulations.   This seminar will present in detail the main components of O. Reg 278/05, particularly those that affect planning, tendering and performing building renovations.  The seminar will also review the ACMs that are present in buildings and that may impact even minor renovations.

Dr. Donald Pinchin, B.Sc., M.A.Sc., PhD, is president and founder of Pinchin Environmental (1981) and vice president of Pinchin LeBlanc Environmental Ltd., Le Groupe Gesfor Poirier Pinchin Inc. and PHH Environmental Limited. He is also the well-known author of Asbestos in Buildings, published by the Ontario Royal Commission on Asbestos (1982), which forms the basis of most Asbestos in Buildings regulations in Canada. The Pinchin Group provides engineering management and training in many areas of environmental and building management. Donald teaches many of the training courses offered by the company, provides consulting services to clients and appears as an expert witness in litigation throughout North America. He is also president of the Environmental Abatement Council of Ontario.
